It's time to once again delve deep into behind-the-scenes of the most recent media from the 101 Dalmatians franchise!
Allow us to present the official storyboard animatics of two episodes: "Curse of the Ferry Dog" and "The Longest Night", with both of the first scenes drawn by a one of the show's storyboard artists, Dan Hamman
These storyboards were uncovered by a user @babclayton.bsky.social a while back, and we're excited to present them on the Daily Puppy website to 101DS fans for easier acess!
Here you can see how Hamman animated the characters through the form of storyboarding that brought them to life on our television.
(Click on the screenshots of one of the animatics above to visit his Speakerdeck account to get a better look at them.)
The animatics is almost 101% identical to the final product, though with every pre-production media, there are certain to be unused assets and animations found in them.
That, and along with animated details and a few lines of dialogue that didn't make the cut for the final product. For one expample where Dolly makes a joke about Dante's warnings to Dylan! As a common thing in animation production and post-production, details and several lines tend to end up not being used for the final version.
Seeing these animatics is basically like a skeleton of the animation, allowing us to see how it shapes up to the final, production-ready masterpiece. Dan Hamman deserves a round of applause from the 101DS community for his incredible storyboarding experience. He's also made storyboards of other animated shows in his career, which you can also view on his Speakerdeck!
